Chad Shares a Special
Night With His Fans
by Judith Arnold
On November 23, 2002 Eight DQ Times members gathered
in New York City to see Chad Allen make his
Off-Broadway debut in the play Temporary Help written by David Wiltse.
This psychological thriller was the first production by Revelation
Theater, a new Off-Broadway theater group dedicated to celebrating
voices that reflect challenging issues in contemporary American
life. Chad Allen serves on Revelation’s Artistic Board.
The question that kept the audience on the edge of their seats
was whether Vincent (played by Chad Allen) would be yet another
drifter killed by a twisted Nebraska farm couple or was he a serial
killer who would turn the tables on the couple? While you wouldn’t
want to invite any of the characters to your home for dinner, all
the acting was excellent. Chad, in particular, played the complex,
emotionally wounded, but dangerously manipulative Vincent to perfection.

After the performance Chad gathered in the lobby to mingle with
fans as part of a fan appreciation night hosted by his web site.
He was incredibly generous with his time, talking with everyone,
signing autographs, and posing for pictures. He seemed genuinely
pleased we came to see the play and spoke effusively about his role,
even sharing a story about an injury to his co-star during a fight
scene the night before. It’s clear Chad loves acting in live
theater. For those of us Dr. Quinn fans, he shared stories of the
series, especially the fun he had working with Shawn Toovey and
Erika Flores. Finally, he mentioned what a good time he had at the
reunion and how pleased he was to have been able to attend.
