Script auction to help agency

PCC Community Services, a nonprofit Port Huron counseling agency, has planned a charity auction Saturday to raise money for uninsured and working poor residents in need of its services.

Among the donations up for grabs are collector's items from the CBS family drama Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. The set includes autographed 8- by 10-inch photos of star Jane Seymour, who is kicking off the 50th anniversary season of the Port Huron Town Hall lecture series in October, and Kyle Thatcher, a former Port Huron resident who had a recurring role on the show.

Other items include prop money and an original script signed by the cast.

The memorabilia were donated by Janet Taylor of Port Huron, a high school classmate of Thatcher who stayed in touch with the actor until his suicide in 2001. Thatcher's life-long battle with depression and bipolar disorder inspired Taylor to donate the gifts.

"I wanted to donate these items in his memory to benefit a cause he would have benefited from," she said.

PCC Community Services President and CEO Kathryn Rann said she resisted the urge to post the items on an Internet auction site.

"We could put this on eBay and I'm sure it would get a good sum, but I'd like it to be in Port Huron," Rann said.
