TV
presenter Rolf Harris went back to his artistic roots to
lead a star-studded "draw-in" with
the help of famous faces such as Changing Rooms guru Linda
Barker, footballer David James and ex-Bond girl Jane Seymour.
The
popular British celebs joined nearly 150 participants of
all ages, skill levels and walks of life, who gathered
in Trafalgar Square to create a giant replica – measuring
about the size of a double decker bus – of John Contstable's
famous work, The Hay Wain.
Once finished, the 144 individual canvases were aligned
to form the enormous rendition of the famous Suffolk country
scene, which was then unveiled outside the National Gallery
on Sunday evening.
Describing
the endeavour as "one of the most ambitious
paintings I have ever attempted in my career", Animal
Hospital host Rolf was thrilled to promote the joys of art. "Art
is something for everyone to enjoy in one way or another," said
the Australian-born entertainer, who initially came to London
to study art in 1952.
The Trafalgar Square event was held as part of the Art On
The Square project, organised by the BBC, National Gallery,
National Portrait Gallery, London Mayor Ken Livingstone and
the Campaign for Drawing's nationwide festival, The Big Draw.
