Published on Sunday, September 20, 2009 Artist, Actress, Author and Activist Jane Seymour gets ‘Up Close and Personal’ with her first Canadian art exhibition tour opening in Calgary. Jane Seymour, OBE, Emmy and Golden Globe Winner, Bond Girl, Movie, Stage, television star and artist will participate in her first ever Canadian tour that will also include Victoria and Toronto. The collection, valued at over $1M, will be on display and available for acquisition at the Artevo ‘Artists of the World’ Gallery, 514, 11th Avenue SW during a variety of private and public receptions and exhibitions October 8, 9, and 10, 2009. Seymour says she’s looking forward to coming back to familiar territory to share her works and passion. “I’ve always loved coming back to Canada,” she says. “I’ve made many movies in Calgary, Toronto, outside of Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Winnipeg. It’s much more personal in many ways than coming and shooting a movie, which is someone else’s work.” Personal challenges that began 18 years ago, including almost losing her life three times, took Seymour on a journey she never expected. Using art as an expressive outlet, she has designed an intimate world of delicate watercolours, vibrant oil paintings, pastels, bronze sculptures and has accepted select private commissions. “When really bad things were happening, the interesting thing was that I painted serenity,” she says. “This really came about especially after I almost lost my life when I had anaphylactic shock when I was playing Maria Callas. You have a different take on life and you can let go of a lot of things.” By continually redeveloping her technique, style and subject matter, Ms. Seymour continues to reach new artistic levels while garnering critical acclaim for her work. She began showing her work in 2000 and launched her first museum exhibition in 2004 at the Butler Institute of American Art. Additionally, Jane was selected as one of the official painters of the 2005 Torino Winter Olympics, the official artist of the 2006 Naples Winter Wine Festival, and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. She’s been added to the team of official artists gearing up to show their works at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver next year. Collectors will appreciate the unique opportunity of viewing and selecting from the artist’s original working studies created for the upcoming Vancouver Olympics for the first time available for acquisition through the Artevo Galleries. Ms. Seymour is also admired for donating key pieces of her art to numerous local and national charities, including Child Help, which raise funds for children in need, and to promote women’s heart health. As a stage and screen performer, Ms. Seymour knows what is required to role play. In art, direction comes from within as well as from external factors. She embraces the chance to dig deep and create on her own terms. “If sometimes I want to say something emotional and I need a human being to pose, a model, in those cases I quite often pick myself if I can’t find someone else to really express what it is I’m trying to say.” Christopher Talbot, founder, president and CEO of Artevo ‘Artists of the World’ Gallery,’ says the flagship location in Calgary is the perfect place to launch a personal exhibition. The attraction of Seymour’s works includes the honesty and passion, the broad appeal, painting from the heart and always with a sense of flow, wellness, and calm that Albertans appreciate. The star quality of her work also lends to the value of each piece. “There is a story behind every creation, which makes the art even more engaging and inspiring,” he says. “The integrity of her art is also proven given the fact her North American shows have done so well.” Irene Besse, president of Irene Besse Keyboards and presenting sponsor for the event, says Seymour’s approach to art—infusing family life, tranquility, and respect for the intricacies of nature, is what makes her work appealing. Besse, who is heavily involved in the arts scene in Calgary, says Seymour’s honest expression is what inspired her to back the tour. “Jane is very much a family person and she is so respected in her industry,” Besse says. “There is a comfort that emanates from her work that many people enjoy.” A series of public and private events are planned for Seymour’s visit, which will offer visitors several opportunities to meet with her personally, as well as preview and purchase her works. All events take place at Artevo ‘Artists of the World’ Gallery, 514 – 11th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB. Thursday, October 8 Friday, October 9 Saturday, October 10 Ms. Seymour’s tour continues on to Victoria, BC, on October 29, and Toronto, November 19.
