Carol Moorhouse was well known in the Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman community for the kindness she showed to all who knew her. While she loved and respected all the cast of the series, she had a special feeling for Joe Lando, the actor who captured her heart as Byron Sully. Eventually, that admiration led to the creation of the Joe Lando Web Page- an online tribute to not only the actor but the man himself. Now the official Joe Lando Website run by Judy Allen,it has become Joe Lando's 'home' on the web, a place for all who have come to appreciate this talented actor. On August 13, 2001, the Dr. Quinn fandom and Joe's fans in particular, suffered a tragic loss when Carol lost her battle with cancer.

Carol used to enjoy entertaining her friends with short stories based on Dr. Quinn and later on Joe Lando's character from Higher Ground. She once wrote a poem describing her feelings at the time of her first meeting with Joe. In her memory we'd like to share that poem with you.

I walked up the trail

No sound could be heard

Except for the stream

And the chirp of a bird.

I took in the scene

Not a soul was in sight

So when sounds came from nowhere

I turned round in fright

The bushes were rustling

Too loud for a snake

Too big for a dog

I started to shake …

Something was coming

It was so hard to see

But the crashing grew louder

And came closer to me.

Was I far from the others?

If I yelled would they hear?

Was I to die from the bite

Of a lion or a bear?

But my heart skipped a beat

As the bear came in view

His long hair shone golden

His eyes piercing blue

There were beads round his neck

A wolf at his heel

He was what dreams are made of

Was he here?  Was he real?

My palms they were sweating

My heart started to hammer

When he stopped to stay hi

I barely could stammer.

I close my eyes now

And I'm back there again

My hand in his hand

Hear his voice say my name

Moments like this one

Stay with you forever

When all else is forgotten

This memory will never

The story's a true one

And it happened that way

Four years ago

On Valentines Day.
