Ever wonder how Sully and Wolf came to be together?
In this story I attempt to answer that question. It's pretty short, but I just thought that there
was a history and respect between the two that should be addressed.
When Comrades Fall He ran through the brush like a gazelle through the jungle. His movements so graceful and fluid; he was the perfect picture of natures ballet. He loped purposefully through the wood after his prey. His well known task being executed with precision as he had done for his master for the past ten years. Sully watched as Wolf chased his prey. He used to try to run after him and beat him to it, but his faithful companion always reached the prize first. Sully knew that when Wolf reached the stag he would guard it until Sully could catch up. This was a well practiced routine which they both knew well. As Wolf ran ahead Sully could no longer see his tail above the brush. Then he heard a cry above the silence of the forest. Sully stopped to listen for the sound again. It was Wolf. “Wolf!” Sully screamed, and ran towards the cries. As Sully came upon his fallen comrade, he suddenly felt his stomach jump into his throat. Wolf was lying on the ground, the rattlesnake recoiling from its attack. Sully drew his tomahawk from his belt and with one flick of the wrist lodged his weapon right through the center of the serpent. Kneeling down to Wolf, he surveyed the damage. “Easy boy, what happened?” Noting that the bite was close to the neck, Sully determined that he would have to get him to Michaela. “I gotta get you to Michaela; she’ll fix ya right up. C’mon.” With their dinner forgotten, Sully reached under the animal and embraced his fading form to his chest and sprinted towards the homestead and his friend's only hope. *~~~* Katie had just gone down for her nap and Michaela was out in the yard hanging some laundry on the line when she heard her husband’s cries. “Michaela!” “Sully?” “Michaela! Ya gotta help him,” Sully was running into the yard with his pet in his arms and tears running down his cheeks. “Sully! What happened?” “Rattlesnake.” “Bring
him inside, put him on the table.” |
