I’m
lying here awake at 3:30 a.m. reliving the evening. I finally
did it, I met Jane Seymour! After learning through the
DQ Times that Jane would be giving a speech in Burbank
on October 6th, I decided it was now or never and I bought
a ticket for the event.
I
don’t know what I expected, not a drumroll exactly
but certainly some kind of announcement that Jane had entered
the room but instead all of a sudden she was just there
talking to people. She was dressed in orange and looked
lovely. It was actually a small group of people so even
though I was sitting in the back ( my style) I felt close.
Jane was very engaging and funny and even though I know
a lot about her from her work and the web sites, she shared
things that were new to me too.
She talked about her art
and she mentioned that she took pictures of children for
a commission at a horse show recently in Maryland. She
mentioned she was trying sculpture now and that as a Christmas
gift her twins had posed for her. To stand still for 3
hours for 9 year old boys she said was quite a Christmas
gift and she hopes they will do that again this year. She
said her sculptures of the boys came out cute and are currently
being cast in bronze.
Jane talked a lot about her visit to France and showed
her Impressionism video. Afterward she was selling her
book, the video, and 2 art kits that are prototypes. I
already have her book so I asked her to sign the magazine
article about her art that they had there for the taping.
I did buy one of her art kits, not that I know how to do
art. I'm hoping there are instructions. I am sorry I didn't
buy both they looked great. Jane explained that these art
kits which she was actually painting with as she signed
her book, were part of a new project she is working on
to introduce people to art and let them discover what pleasure
it can bring. By giving people water color kits with great
paper and a good brush as well as paints, Jane believes
that people will turn out a higher quality project from
the start and will be more inclined to want to explore
their own talents. She is doing this in partnership with
savoir-faire a painting supply company. She said she also
wants to make videos about the masters that includes art
appreciation, information about the artists, and instructions
on how to do projects like the masters. There was a book
you could sign if you wanted to help with her project so
I signed that. Art isn’t my field but I do enjoy
it and I liked Jane’s idea of introducing people
to art this way.
Later Jane took questions from the audience. I didn’t
have the nerve to ask anything (this time) but I enjoyed
just sitting there taking it all in. Someone asked her
about her new series, Modern Men and she revealed that
they asked to use 2 of her paintings on the wall of her
character’s office. She said she had been working
on the show all week and will start filming next week.
All too soon the evening was over.
For me I did better than I thought. I asked her for a
picture and I took a couple of candid ones. I really
enjoyed the evening even if I was shaking all during
her speech! Maybe next time I’ll even ask a question
myself! ---- Lynn--
