These few clouds aside, Jane loves her visits to the house and is most happy when she can share it with her extended family. Accompanying her on this trip are 59-year-old James, an actor, producer and director, and their 11-year-old twin sons, John and Kris. They are also joined by Jane’s children, actress Katie, 25, and Sean, 22 a music video director, from her third marriage to David Flynn; Jenni, 27, from David’s previous marriage; Alex and Kirsty, the two daughters of David’s first wife’s subsequent marriage.. and on it goes. What with Jane’s two younger sisters, Sally and Annie, and their attendant offspring plus any number of friends and helpers, St. Catherine’s currently accommodates some 30 people. “Not, of course, that you can find the one you want at any given moment,” complains Jane. Her attempt at hopeless despair is entirely unconvincing. Were there to be an international search fo find Miss Capability, Jane Seymour would carry off the crown. She also looks astonishing for her age- she is a perfect size 10 and the same eight-and-a-half stone she weighed at 17, courtesy of daily exercise and a carefully controlled diet. Just two years ago, she carried off a nude scene in hit comedy the Wedding Crashers with aplomb. Jane and James, who was recently a producer on the Oscar-winning film Walk the Line, see themselves as the custodians of St. Catherine’s for future generations, and have lavished money on its restoration. The actress first fell in love with the beautiful, Grad 1 –listed house, which is set in 15 acres of land, when she filmed a TV serialisation of Daphne du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn there in 1984. She subsequently paid £350,000 for the property: “But the place was crumbling before my eyes.” The financial demands of the deteriorating house grew worse when her acrimonious divorce from David Flynn revealed a mountain of debt of which Jane had been unaware. But in 1992, she met James on the set of the TV movie Sunstroke. The two married in 1993, and her new husband- whose brother is the actor Stacy Keach- quickly shared Jane’s enthusiasm for restoring St. Catherine’s.
