RUNNING DRY is a comprehensive public information/education
project to raise awareness regarding the worsening global
water crisis. The project's centerpiece is an explosive and
enlightening in-depth documentary. RUNNING DRY was inspired
by former U.S. Senator Paul Simons' book TAPPED OUT, the
coming world crisis in water and what we can do about it.
The documentary is narrated by actress Jane Seymour and
written, produced and directed by Jim Thebaut. For practical
purposes, there are two versions, an eighty minute feature
and a 50 minute executive summary and the process of presenting
them throughout the world has now begun.
On February 4th, 2005 RUNNING DRY was premiered at The Aquarium
of the Pacific, Long Beach, California, on February 8th in
Washington DC at The Center for Strategic and International
Studies and at noon on February 24th to members and staff
of the U.S. Congress in the Caucus Room within the Russell
Senate Building. Later in the day at 3:00 PM it was presented
at the Woodrow Wilson center for Scholars.
On World water Day, March 22nd RUNNING DRY was premiered
in Beijing. It was a public awareness event sponsored by
the Center for Environmental Education & Communications
of the State Environmental Protection Administration of China.
On May 4th, the documentary received acclaim at Southern
Illinois University, Carbondale. The event was sponsored
by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.
Future screenings are being planned in South Africa, India,
Middle East, Moscow and elsewhere throughout the world. For
example, significant presentations will occur on August 15th
in Las Vegas and the following day in Reno,
Nevada. Its purpose
is to educate the region regarding the depth and dimension
of the water crisis in the American Southwest.
On Wednesday evening September 7th RUNNING DRY will have
its Hollywood premier! The feature length version will be
presented at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival to be held
at the Arc Light Cinema, 6360 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.
The objective of this event is to generate an entertainment
and media spot light on the global water crisis and the RUNNING
DRY project. It will be an historical evening!
Ultimately RUNNING DRY will be released theatrically and
viewed on television world-wide. In addition, curricula and
other educational materials will be designed in order to
generate proactive involvement from students, scholars and
citizens. This public information/education process will
begin with a screening of the documentary on June 30th at
the Long Beach, California Aquarium of the Pacific for teachers
and administrators from various school districts in the U.S.
The looming world water crisis is huge but not insurmountable.
A few simple changes can make a great deal of difference.
The purpose of the RUNNING DRY project is to build popular
sentiment and create the political will to solve the water
crisis through public policy. This is a movement composed
of people like you who know that we all are affected by this
crisis, and there are practical steps we all can take to
solve it.
