Where do you live?
I have a home in England, it's over a thousand
years old, it's called St. Catherine's Court. It's near Bath.
I did notice this week in a magazine (article) about Tom Cruise
and Katie Holmes that they have a thing about where they are
going to get married and if you look behind them they are standing
in front of my house!
How did you meet your fourth husband, James?
When I did Sunstroke, the first movie I ever produced and
my agent suggested a good director whom I'd "love." I met
him and I worked with him, and I loved him and that was James
Keach. From the moment we fell in love we've been together.
It's been 14 years since we met and we've been married 12.
Did you seduce him in front of the camera?
Apparently! After the movie he said to me, " I'd like to see
you again." I said, "No, you're married, I don't do that."
Then two days later he called again, saying, " I have just
left my life completely, and may I see you now?" I was in shock.
He came by and I had to go the next day to Austria to make
a movie and six weeks later, after lots of romantic faxes,
he came to Austria. We had a long walk down the river, we laughed,
we cried and that was it.
We've been together ever since.
It wasn't instant attraction when you met?
No, I'd been single. I'd been very hurt and I'd been dating
a much younger men. And I was realizing it wasn't working.
James is a little bit older than me, so it's a little bit more
appropriate. The younger men were fun, very flattering. I'm
a very good pool shark. I wore my black jeans. It was only
went we went to my children's school that it felt a little
bit different. But it's good to have been there and now I can
act it right? That's what I'm doing now!
Do you really do the nudity in the film?
Yes, it's my body.
Did you hesitate?
The question was how I could fit in at least a couple of workouts.
I do a little isometrics, I do some light weights. I try to
exercise just a bit to stay healthy, but I'm not Madonna. I'm
not like- buff.
But you embraced the idea of taking your clothes off? There
was no question about it?
Oh no, there was a big question. I read the script and thought
that was one of the most brilliant roles I've read, but there
is no way I can do it. Then I read it again, I thought, "This
is so funny, it's a shame I can't do it." Then I read it
again and went, "This is too damn funny, I have to do this."
What made you think you couldn't do it?
I wasn't sure wether I should. I had never done that kind
of nudity before, plus I'm 54. Why would anyone want me?
But that was the part, she was older, so it made sense. Then
I had to audition for it. I haven't auditioned since I started,
since I was 17. That was a bizarre experience too, trying
to get a part. And I think they didn't really know who I
was. Just one producer knew my work. It was really interesting.
I had to tell them, "You know I have actually done a couple
of movies!"
