Andrea and Jane Seymour

When Andrea learned that her visit to the United States from Germany would coincide with Jane Seymour's visit to Jacksonville Florida, she determined to take the opportunity to finally meet the woman she had admired for so long. Andrea shares the story of that special experience now in her own word, in photos and ultimately in Jane's own voice.

August 6, 2004

After travelling half around the globe from Germany to Spring Hill, FL and after driving from there to Jacksonville I finally sat in the first row and waited for Jane Seymour to appear on the stage.

The whole event was to start at 11 am. Jane was going to present different items from her St. Catherine’s Court Collection. Since there was plenty of time left I went to the first floor to have a closer look at some itmes.

As I really wanted to take a picture with Jane (and which fan of her doesn’t?) I thought it might be a good idea to ask somebody in advance whether this may be possible at all. That’s how I found out about what had happened the day before. The lady told me that the event a day before had ended up in a complete mess with about 500 people queueing up and wanting autographs. Furthermore she said that Jane wasn’t feeling very well and they had even called for a doctor. She continued that the show might not take place. NOW I was nervous.

As it was nearly 11 o’clock I took my seat again. Finally at about 11:15 I saw Jane who was in the elevator on her way down. What a smile! Somebody introduced her (right, because we didn’t know who she was J ) and Jane finally went on stage and started presenting her beautiful collection. It didn’t take very long for her to present most of the items. Jane didn’t talk about everything on the table where smaller items were laid out. I guess that would have taken too long. She then asked the audience whether anybody had questions. It didn’t take very long and the people started asking her questions on all different kinds of topics. Some asked questions about her children, her family in general, about her home in England, her acting career and her plans for the future. I cannot remember what the question was but Jane said that she was going to England that afternoon. I later found out that she was to stay there until the end of August and then came back to the US .

After Jane answered several questions she left to go upstairs to sign items from her collection. The people queued up very quickly and after a short break Jane came back to have a little chat with everybody and personlize purchased items. It seems that unfortunately she wasn’t allowed to sign personal items such as photos. Although she was obviously not feeling well she took a picture with everybody who asked her to. She even took two with me (just to make sure I get a good one) after she found out that I came all the way from Germany to meet her. She was very sweet indeed and every time I watch DQ now I think of that moment when I talked to her. Actually there are four words to describe that day:

“a dream come true...”

Jane's Presentation - Transcript (transcript provided by Andrea)

Moderator:
She has many other roles which include that of an artist, an author, a children’s advocate, a home and children’s clothing designer and we are excited to have Jane here today. Jane is here to speak about her home collection St. Catherine’s Court which is inspired by her 14th century Bath, England home. And the collection is exclusive to Parisian Jane will share with you her inspiration for the collection and then. afterwards she will take questions and you’re invited upstairs to the Jane Seymour home area on the second floor where Jane will sign products from the home collection. Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Jane Seymour.

Jane:

Hi everybody. Thank you. Well, this is really exciting for me. I haven’t been into this part of the world before and you sure live in a beautiful place. It’s just gorgeous. Um, I was invited a year ago to design a collection exclusively for Parisian, you cannot get this anywhere else around here, and we’ve been doing it for a year now and we have two collections. We have the St. Catherine’s Court Collection which is inspired by my home in England that actually dates back to 950 which makes it, I think, four times older than America. My husband refers to the house as a 1000 years of deferred maintenance. Occasionally but actually it is doing very well. It’s an absolute spectacular place. It’s a wonderful inspiration for a collection. And the collection has been designed not for St. Catherine’s. Inspired by it, but actually designed for Florida, you know, for people who live in America, who live the way Americans live but definitely keyed to the architectural details of St. Catherine’s.

The other collection if you go up you’ll see is called Coral Canyon. Coral Canyon is based on my home in Malibu. So that’s more like a costal living kind of feeling. But, in fact, both collections are really appropriate to coastal living as you’ll see when I go through the collection and show you. They really, they fit every kind of home. I could not bring everything onto this little table area with me. So you will have to come upstairs and see how beautifully they displayed the beds. But the whole concept behind this is that you can be the designer of your own home. You don’t need to have somebody come and do it for you. You can find yourself attracted to colour palette or a pattern. And what we’ve done is that we have created all kinds of accessories to go with it. So the lamps will match but there will be endless different varieties of lamps you can choose that will go with it. There will be all different kinds of combinations of pillows and you really can uniquely make your bed look like your bed. And the other fun part about it is that although we show these beautiful accessories around a bed there is no reason why they can’t go elsewhere in your house.
